I’ve been recommending Seashell’s changing robes for years, and if you’ve read my full DryRobe alternatives roundup, you’ll know they still hold the top spot. Since I first reviewed the robe, Seashell has grown from a single product into a proper cold-water kit range.
The changing robe now sits alongside an organic cotton towelling robe and a drybag backpack, backed by a 3-year performance guarantee that beats most of the competition. I’ve updated this review to reflect what’s changed, what’s new, and whether it’s still my top pick.

Seashell commissioned this review, and we were sent the robe free of charge to test. As always, our rating reflects genuine, hands-on use, and we only work with brands whose products we’d recommend anyway.
Not only do Seashell make waterproof changing robes, but they also have their own community. Seashell practice what they preach and put their products to good use in wild swimming and fitness community events up in Scotland.

What's New at Seashell?
Seashell is one of the original changing robe brands, and the Seashell Robe 3.0 was where that experience really showed. That update, itself not so long ago, brought 10,000mm waterproofing, a heavier fleece lining, redesigned hood cords for a better seal against the wind, and a fit that finally sat right on smaller frames without swamping you. It was also the point Seashell started donating £1 from every robe sold to Neptunes Pirates, a marine conservation initiative focused on tackling ocean plastic and protecting coastal wildlife. Across the tens of thousands of robes Seashell has now sold, that adds up to a genuinely significant contribution, and it shows a brand putting real money behind the “ocean-first” label rather than just using it as a slogan.
Now, with the Seashell Robe 3.0 still fairly fresh, they’ve pushed further again with a full relaunch. The 60-day returns window and 3-year performance guarantee are longer than anything we found from any other changing robe brand, showing a business that’s only getting more confident in its own build quality, not settling once the 3.0 landed. It’s the kind of guarantee a brand only offers once they trust the product won’t come back. Alongside that confidence, the range has grown beyond the changing robe itself.

Seashell vs Dryrobe
Like Dryrobe, Seashell are one of the original changing robe companies that were around before the robe “boom” and they have continued to challenge competitors with their promises, quality and features.
Here’s a look at Seashell vs Dryrobe (and other well-known brands).

The Details
Fleece Lining
A deep, recycled polyester sherpa fleece lines the whole robe, warm against the skin from the moment you put it on, even over wet swimwear. Seashell publish slightly different GSM figures across their own listings, so we’d rather not print an exact number until that’s confirmed.
Shell & Waterproofing
Rated to 10,000mm and fully windproof, with taped seams so water can’t creep in through the stitching. It’s finished with Bionic-Finish Eco, a PFC-free water-repellent treatment, a friendlier way of getting a genuinely waterproof shell without the more persistent chemicals older coatings relied on. Dryrobe’s shell is rated higher at 25,000mm, so for genuinely extreme conditions that’s a real difference, but for UK beach and post-swim use, Seashell’s 10,000mm does the job comfortably.
Zips
A 2-way YKK zip runs the full length, openable from inside or outside, handy when your hands are too cold to fuss with a stiff zip.
Pockets
Two external, fleece-lined hand-warmer pockets, plus two internal pockets: one A4-sized with a zip for valuables, one open fleece pocket for smaller bits.
Price
As of August 2026, the current Changing Robe is £160, discounted from £175, with a free £20 classic cap included. That’s close to Dryrobe’s usual £159 to £175, not a clear undercut. Seashell also sell the previous-generation robe (Midnight, Camo, Black) for £99, down from £175, a genuinely lower entry point than Dryrobe offers at any tier. We’re also just fans of the colourways, Sand and Pebble Pink feel more considered than the standard black-or-navy most competitors stick to. It costs more than budget brands like Gorilla Robes at full price, but that tracks with higher-spec materials and a longer guarantee, not just branding.

Worth a Look Too: The Towelling Robe
Not everyone needs the full waterproof shell. Seashell’s Organic Cotton Towelling Robe is worth mentioning here too, since it covers a different set of needs at less than half the price, £60 versus £160.
Made from heavyweight, GOTS-certified organic cotton terry, it’s built to soak up water fast and warm you up straight out of the sea, pool or shower, without the bulk of a waterproof shell. It’s noticeably lighter to carry too, around 0.7kg against the changing robe’s 1.2kg, so it packs down smaller for a beach bag or day trip. Three-quarter sleeves with easy-entry stitching let you change underneath it the same way as the main robe, and it comes in Teal, Black and Sand.
It’s a better fit if you’re mostly dealing with post-swim chill rather than wind and rain, or if you want something easier to throw in a bag without thinking about it. Some people just prefer the look and feel of a proper towelling robe too, it’s softer, more casual, and doubles as a dressing gown at home in a way the technical shell robe doesn’t. Backed by the same 60-day returns and 3-year guarantee as the rest of the range.
Final Thoughts
I’ve used Seashell for years now, testing it alongside pretty much every other robe on the market, and it’s stayed one of the strongest Dryrobe alternatives out there.
If you spend any real time outdoors, cold water, hikes, camping, dog walks in the rain, a robe like this stops being a nice-to-have and starts feeling essential. One piece of kit that gets you warm and dry, whatever you were just doing.
We like robes with a bit of colour and personality, not just black or navy for the sake of it, and Seashell delivers there. Sand and Pebble Pink both feel considered rather than an afterthought. Beyond the robe itself, there’s a real community behind the brand, one that’s genuinely active in ocean conservation rather than just claiming to be, with £1 from every robe going toward marine charity partners.
It’s not the cheapest option out there, but the build quality, the guarantee, and the brand behind it justify the price. Quiet confidence, done well.
